A plea from C. Leith Esq., re the name of a reliable sweep locally, provoked a series of emails. The consensus was do not on any account ring the number in the phone book for a local sweep, as you would be presented with the scion of an ancient titled Jersey family (de Morville) who also organises rock concerts. Lord Talkalot is charming but difficult to escape. We do have very good people to recommend.

There are Sloes, but I am worried that there aren’t many. I know last year that there were injuries at the Co-OP when the Seville oranges went on sale and the Homemade Marmalade Brigade panicked at the thought there might not be enough to go around and rushed the fruit section.

Mrs. Serto was quite rudely forced into a pile of over ripe courgettes and the resultant slippery mess caused a couple of falls
in the slime.

So I’d like to know if its safe to go in to buy my bottle of Co-Op gin? For the competition! Or are those bright young things still busy with wheelbarrows?

Dear Ed,

I know we’ve reached the age but surely…

Last month, I was at dinner party locally and one of the guests ( a noisy retired person) produced the engineer’s drawings or plans for his new knee joint and then pulled up his trousers. It wasn’t a pretty sight!

Well, funnily enough, I just didn’t want to know and certainly not during dinner. I like a little frothy gossip, news about local
restaurants and perhaps advice on a good film.

If all we do is discuss our most lugrubrious ailments, dining out will become more like watching ‘Casualty’.

Anyway, if we could avoid medical dramas in the B.C. I’d much rather read about naughty goings on.

Yours truly,

I was thinking about the Green Market in the Parish Hall and wondering if we couldn’t have fitted dynamos to all the wheel barrows and sold some power back to the National Grid.
Seems a bit of a foolish pastime otherwise and don’t get me started on the Terrier Racing.
